Embracing Connections: A Community Gathering at John Lewis Riverside Cafe

The #ConversationTable organisers

Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of attending the Conversation Table organised by our wonderful advocates of social connections, Robin Jarvis and Anthony Gray, at the charming Kingston John Lewis Riverside Cafe.

The event was a delightful gathering of around 20 individuals, all eager to embrace the social spirit fostered by Robin and Anthony. As we gathered around tables adorned with steaming cups of coffee, the air buzzed with the promise of engaging dialogue. We wasted no time in introducing ourselves, sharing our reasons for attending, and brainstorming ideas to further develop the Conversation Table and extend its reach to more participants.

Similar to the ethos of Happy to Chat, the Conversation Table aims to promote social connections within communities by encouraging people to engage in conversations on a wide range of topics – from local affairs to personal interests. It’s a beautiful reminder of the magic that unfolds when we open ourselves up to conversations with strangers – moments of idea exchange, wisdom sharing, and heartfelt laughter.

During the morning, I had the pleasure of learning about biking around Richmond Park, discovering the graceful art of Tai Chi, exploring the joys of yoga, and sharing in the anticipation of an imminent arrival – a 39-week-old bundle of joy!

Of course, amidst our conversations, the importance of initiatives like Happy to Chat badges in supporting and amplifying efforts to promote social connections and inclusion in our communities was not lost on us.

So, I extend a warm invitation to all to join us at John Lewis Kingston every Sunday morning at 11 am for the Conversation Table.

Don’t be shy – simply smile and say hi. You’ll find that conversations flow effortlessly, and with a bit of retail therapy thrown in, isn’t it a fabulous way to enjoy your Sunday morning?
