  • A keynote speech on Happy to Chat at MSP Conference at Newcastle University Business School

As I stood before the lively audience at the MSP Conference in Newcastle University Business School, I couldn’t help but feel super excited and grateful. Getting the chance to talk about Happy to Chat (https://happytochat.uk/) in my keynote was absolutely amazing, and I loved sharing my passion for connecting people and sparking micro conversations to reduce loneliness.

After my talk, during the Q&A session, people had some interesting questions on their minds. One question that kept coming up was whether Happy to Chat would work in different countries, considering the cultural differences and people’s willingness to chat with strangers varying from place to place. It was a great point to bring up, highlighting the importance of understanding how human interactions differ across diverse communities and in different cultural contexts.

In response, I strongly believe that Happy to Chat can adapt and thrive in various cultural contexts. While cultures may shape the specific dynamics of conversations, the fundamental desire for connection and human interaction is something we all share.

Moreover, I expressed my belief that Happy to Chat can beautifully complement existing initiatives like chatty benches and chatty cafes. These projects have done an incredible job in creating spaces for social interaction. However, Happy to Chat takes it a step further by offering a convenient and accessible way for people to start conversations.

Another interesting question that pops up is “Shall we promote Happy to Chat online”? Again- a brilliant suggestion. In fact, Chatty Café is already offering this and you can find more details about Chatty Café here. Join Chatty online – Chatty Cafe Scheme UK (thechattycafescheme.co.uk) For people who have no problem accessing this platform and also fancy a chat with others while sitting in one’s own living room – why not! I think this is a brilliant space. After all, the more the merrier.

The enthusiasm and positive response from the conference attendees reaffirmed my faith in the transformative power of Happy to Chat. Seeing the eagerness of like-minded individuals to embrace and support this initiative only strengthened my passion for promoting meaningful conversations within our communities. As I left the conference, filled with gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the incredible strength of human connection. Happy to Chat is not just a platform; it’s a catalyst for change—a catalyst that ignites conversations, builds bridges, and cultivates empathy.

I’m so grateful for the chance to share my vision at the MSP Conference in Newcastle. Let’s keep embracing connections, breaking down barriers, and creating a world where genuine conversations thrive.
